The Primary Trainer is a leading authority in the mediation field: Alexia Georgakopoulos, PhD., a Professor in the Department of Conflict Resolution Studies at Nova Southeastern University who was featured on NBC’s Today Show to discuss peace and she is the editor of the most contemporary handbook in mediation that was recently published by Routledge titled The Mediation Handbook: Theory, Research and Practice. The program incorporates mediation theories, principles, and skills, as well as current research involving family mediation to provide you with different approaches to best mediate family conflict. It will train you about various mediation strategies and techniques from a variety of models including transformative, narrative, and problem-solving mediation. Program participants will engage in interactive, practical skill-building sessions throughout the program. This program prepares individuals to work as professional mediators within family disputes. Topics will include mediation processes and techniques, psychological issues in divorce and family dynamics, issues concerning children’s needs in the context of divorce, standard of conduct for mediators, Florida family law, family economics, diversity issues, court processes, communication skills, community resources, and referral processes. The conflict management strategies learned in this training have the potential to improve the conflict resolution management in family relationships that involve divorce and/or family conflict. The workshops help you understand how to promote self-determination, commitment, and transformation during family conflict. Program participants will be given a number of resources including, but not limited to the following: Florida Supreme Court approved Family Mediator Manual and copies of the mediation statutes and rules.
